How To Plot A Payback by Melissa Ferguson

Image
We've moved! Come visit us here This is my first time reading a Melissa Ferguson novel.  Plot: In this book, two Brits who grew up together end up working on the same t.v. show in Hollywood. The male MC (Finn) has had some perceived wrongs done to him in the past by the female MC (Lavender) and he'd like a little dose of payback. Review: This is a slow burn, closed door romance. Maybe add in a dash of enemies to lovers. Heavy on the com, light on the rom and I am just fine with that. I like Finn and Lavender's characters and the fact that their childhood ties them together. The first half of the book found me wanting to dislike Lavender but entirely unable to. Finn's character is reserved/nerdy yet has a great sense of humor. Their interactions I'd say are best described as "hijinks". The side characters are a great mix of endearing and irritating. The majority of them are quite memorable, especially Finn's neighbor. Due to this being a slow burn rom

Make Believe Proposal (Make-Believe #5) by Vivi Holt, Lilly Mirren

We've moved! Check out the new site here Plot: June is a nanny to the billionaire Roland and her boyfriend breaks up with her only to get engaged two weeks late. June's revenge plot is to make her ex see that she's happy and doing just fine without him and then her boss fake-proposes to her in front of her ex. Review: I absolutely loved this book. That being said, while I love a fake-dating plot I'm not usually a huge fan of the billionaire/age gap trope. The plot and characters were so well written. Even the kids characters are extremely well written. This book transports you into this billionaire's estate and the inner workings of the family. One of the things that I absolutely ADORED was their trip to Destin, FL. While I'm a South Dakota girlie now, once upon a time I was a Pensacola, FL girlie and I frequently go back because I love that area. Mad props for representing the Florida panhandle. The story didn't feel rushed at all, which I feel is tough t

Make Believe Fiance (Make-Believe #1) by Vivi Holt

We've moved! New site is here Set in Billings, MT. Gwen is a down on her luck, divorced waitress/3rd grade teacher and Heath is an extremely wealthy acting CEO of a ranching corporation. So when Heath is ready to take over as CEO (no acting) he realizes the fact that he's not married might be holding him back and asks Gwen to be his fake fiance in exchange for paying her first month's rent on a new apartment as she has just been evicted. I was pleasantly surprised by this book! The Goodreads rating on it left me wondering if I'd enjoy it but I really did. The characters and plot are extremely well thought out, especially for how short this book is. The last third of the book didn't feel rushed or unfinished. The characters are likable and relatable. The Montana rancher setting makes this perfect for fans of Yellowstone.  If you love a fake dating trope, you'll also like this book. There are some themes of Christianity/God throughout the book so it gives off a li

Bespoke and Bespelled (Movie Magic #1) by Karen Healey

This site has moved, we're casting spells over here now You know that we love a good witchy read around here and this book is So. Freaking. Cute. Marnie is a "Stitch Witch" meaning that her magic is in fabric. She does wardrobe work on movie/TV sets and lands a big gig with some big name actors. Enter Rider, the MMC movie star who Marnie can't help but gravitate towards. Suddenly, it seems as though everything is going wrong on set and Marnie begins to think another witch is the culprit and intends to get to the bottom of it with the help of Rider and her friend Thais.  This book is short and sweet but doesn't feel "unfinished." The characters are well thought out, the New Zealand setting is a nice change of pace, and the element of fabric magic is so fun and nothing I've ever seen in a book before. The plot doesn't feel overdone or formulated, which is so refreshing. I highly recommend this book to anyone but especially to anyone who loves a

Love & Chickens by Kasey Morris

Image
This site has moved, come check it out here This is definitely unlike any book I've ever read. A romance novel heavily threaded with chickens. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this and I didn't have super high hopes but I ended up absolutely loving this book. If you know nothing at all about chickens, like me, trust that you'll still enjoy this read. This book gave off a Jane Austen vibe that I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters are well rounded in a way that you feel like you know exactly who they are and understand their thoughts/actions. There's even some chicken espionage! You'll more than likely learn something about birds, especially if you're like me and end up googling the bird breeds referenced.  Long story short, I started this book about 24 hours ago and I've finished it because I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance or a great romcom.

Never Getting Back Together by Krysti Meyer

Image
This site has moved, check us out here My first Krysti Meyer book! This book is described as a  Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama in this small-town, second-chance romance. The artwork included in this post is by far my favorite artwork for this novel.  Quinn is working hard to fulfill her dream of opening her own business, suddenly her ex Ty shows back up in town. Home for the summer from college. She ends up having to help him host their Founder's Week celebrations for the town and she's less than thrilled about it.  This book is very second chance at love vibes. The romance between the MCs feels oddly drawn out and rushed at the same time. However, I did like the book. I liked the vibe of the town and the town's cast of characters. In that aspect, it did give off a Gilmore Girls vibe.  I wouldn't call this book a page turner but it's a cute romance and worth a read if you're into a YA romance.

Pity Pact (Pity #3) by Whitney Dineen

Image
This site has moved, please visit the new page here This is my first Whitney Dineen novel. MC is from a small town in Wisconsin and we love a good Midwest plot since I live in South Dakota. Our MC Paige Holland is a middle school math teacher who has signed up for a reality show called Midwest Matchmaker, which is being filmed in her home town of Elk Lake, Wisconsin. She's looking for love and hoping for one that allows her to stay in her home town. Tim went to high school with Paige and also ends up on the show but he's not looking for love, he's looking for revenge.  I think this book is well-written and humorous. The characters did feel a little bit underdeveloped but the book was a light and funny read. The female MC Paige really didn't do it for me. She comes off as a spoiled brat, basically a gigantic rude asshole. I actually disliked her for the majority of the book. About 20% of the way through, I basically could not stand her. The male MC Tim provides some mu

Laughing All The Way by Mia Summers

Image
This site has moved, please get in the holiday spirit here A Mia Summers Christmas novel that I wish that I had read between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Normally I am a sucker for Christmas and I just could not get into it this year. I'll just re-read this next year and get myself in the mood right away🤷. This is the final Mia Summers book in my TBR and forgive me for saying that I'm ready for a bit of spice in my life after this one. Our MC Noelle is a GRINCH. She's an internet famous YouTuber known for her bluntness. Colin is the handsome (and youngest) small town mayor (and the town Santa) of Christmas Town USA , aka Evergreen Creek. He obviously loves Christmas.  Noelle pays a trip to Evergreen Creek for work, covering the annual Christmas Festival which doubles as one of the struggling small town's fundraisers.  I honestly did not like Noelle's character in the beginning. Idc why she hates Christmas, her terribly negative attitude bleeds into her own thought

The Reel Deal (Big Star, Small Town #3) by Mia Summers

Image
This site has moved, please fall in love here The third book in this series and my third Mia Summers book. Jake Leonard was introduced in book 2 as Logan's friend in a toxic relationship and now he's the star of book #3. Delilah is taking care of her grandmother in the small town of Elk River after an accident that led to a broken foot. Grandma does housekeeping for Jake and Mia must help keep up his house as her grandma is out of commission. When Jake's toxic ex shows up, Delilah and Jake strike a bargain: She pretends to be his girlfriend to get his crazy ex off of his case while she stalks him in town for the next two weeks and Jake will help Delilah get her art into a gallery for a showing.  I think this book is my favorite of the series, honestly. I was so happy that there wasn't a huge focus on papparazzi, lots of beautiful landscapes detailed in the writing, and two really likable main characters. I even liked the element of the crazy ex Zoe, she's written ve

Switched (Ghosted #2) by Sarah Ready

Image
This site has moved, please head to the new site here Another beautifully written novel by Sarah Ready. I am unbelievably excited to be reading this book because I loved the first one so SO much. If you haven't read book 1, go read it. Not because you need to read it to understand the plot of this book but because it's so f*cking GOOD. This book has two STEM mc's, Ali Hazelwood fans will definitely like this book. Serena (from California) and Henry (from England) are physicists working at the CERN science Gateway in Geneva and they could not be more different from each other. So, of course, they end up switching bodies during an electrical storm.  This book is as beautifully descriptive as the first, taking place in Geneva, England and Northern Cali. This author just has a way with words. You feel like you're visiting these places. You feel like you're in the brains of the MCs. It's beautifully poetic and feminist, focusing on a woman's choice between romant
