Hooked by Emily McIntire (Never After #1)

Image
I've moved - come see me here Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5 Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 Primary Genre: Dark Romance Trigger Warnings: Please click  here  to visit author's website Favorite Quote:   “Feelings don't just go away, they merely shift and change as your soul breaks, molding themselves into the cracks.” Plot 4/5: A fractured fairy tale reimagining of Peter Pan. Imagine Hook is a straight up mafia type drug dealing ganster and Peter Pan is a millionaire mogul who will destroy  anyone  if it serves him. Modern day Hook and Wendy end up in a situationship involving copious amounts of hooking up. Hook spends the majority of his time trying to take Wendy's dad (Peter) down. Lots of people get tortured and murdered. Tinker Bell is now Tina and so much more evil than Julia Roberts played her. The Good:   * James/Hook has some incredible character development throughout the book. It's not ridiculously unbelievable either.  * There were several parts of the book that got me in the fee

How to Sell A Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

Image
How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars I've moved, come see me here I can't even explain how many times this book had me saying "WTF". It was shocking and it was creepy. If you can't tolerate the movie Annabelle, definitely do not read this book. However, if you loved it, this might be the book for you. The main character seemed to evolve and then devolve, sort of like she was in a constant cycle that she couldn't escape. I suppose that's part of the charm of horror. While I may have some residual squirrel trauma, I definitely don't regret reading this book. It's a great read to prep for Halloween and get yourself into the spooky mood. View all my reviews

The Fine Print by Lauren Asher (Dreamland Billionaires #1)

Image
The Fine Print by Lauren Asher My rating: 4 of 5 stars I've moved, come see me here Ok, I can kind of see the hype It’s a little cheesy but it’s also super cute. Definitely recommend to anyone who is Disney obsessed. I will obviously read the other two books because the storyline has sunk its claws into me and I have to see what happens with the other two brothers. View all my reviews

The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson

Image
The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson My rating: 3 of 5 stars I've moved, come see me here   3 Stars. This book seemed like a sure thing on paper but when I started reading it, I had an extremely hard time getting in to it. I ended up just getting the audiobook from Libby and listening to it while I drove to and from work and did cleaning around the house. I can't even pinpoint a reason, so I'm sure there are tons of others who would love this. Just not for me, I guess! That being said, I didn't totally HATE this book. There is a TON of spice (I hear that's a Lana Ferguson specialty) and it was well written, for the most part. If you know me, you know that I LOVE a fake-dating trope. And you also know that I can't effing stand a 3rd act breakup. I read Ali Hazelwood's Bride several months before this so I figured that I had the whole "werewolf spice" thing down but Bride was more of a hit and this was more of a miss for me. The spice was a little too &

Home Is Where The Bodies Are by Jeneva Rose

Image
Home Is Where the Bodies Are by Jeneva Rose My rating: 5 of 5 stars I've moved, come see me here   My first Jeneva Rose book and I could not put this down. The fam gathers at their childhood home in Wisconsin following the death of the mother. On her death bed, she tries to tell Beth what happened to their father but dies in the process. The sibling dynamics of Beth, Nicole and Michael are wildly toxic, incredibly strange and inexplicable things keep happening and from one moment to the next I don't know who is out of their mind. They stumble upon a VHS tape that appears to incriminate their parents in a crime and they strap in to the rollercoaster of trying to figure out what happened. I did not see the twist coming until it was right in front of my face. Loved the ending as well! View all my reviews

The Teacher by Freida McFadden

Image
The Teacher by Freida McFadden My rating: 3 of 5 stars I've moved, come see me here   Giving this a 3.5. Definitely not my favorite Freida book but at the same time, I read it in a few hours because I couldn't put it down. The married couple this story centers around are both selfish as*holes but it's interesting to see what they'll do next. I can absolutely relate to Eve's shoe obsession and now I'm wondering if I should be concerned. I guess I don't try to steal them though so I'm probably ok, right? Shoulder shrug. Meanwhile, her husband Nate comes off as the guy who peaked in freshman year of college in English Comp. Now he's on the road to an uphill battle with hair loss and ED-it's only a matter of time, trust me. The ending had so many twists that I felt like I had whiplash and I didn't see 75% of them coming. Was I enthralled and entertained for the majority of the book? Yes. Did I feel pissed off at the end? I mean...yeah. At the

Assistant To The Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Image
Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer My rating: 5 of 5 stars I've moved, come see me here This book is so FUNNY. I am obsessed. I wish that I hadn't waited so long to read it, but at the same time I'm grateful because the 2nd book just came out and this one ends on a cliffhanger (I hate that, btw). Besides that, this book has everything. Magic, magical beings, villains (plural because there are many), a castle, a love story, revenge, bombs and lots of laughs. It gives off the vibe of an R-rated Ella Enchanted but with a way different storyline. Anyhow, I couldn't put it down. I loved it. View all my reviews

Back from Sabbatical

I'm back! I'd like to say that I was on some lengthy vacation or something but in reality I had a test that I had to take for a certification for work and had 6 months to study. I was still reading a bit here and there, but my reviews took a back seat. Anyways, expect more posts now that I have my life back!  See you in the next review 📚😼 Dawn

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Mass (Throne of Glass #7)

Image
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 5 of 5 stars This site has moved, please come see me here Gotta admit, I’ve never been so excited for a series to be over. Was it a mistake to read them all so close together? Maybe. Would Kingdom of Ash have been better if it were split into 2 books? Definitely. I personally didn’t need a 1K page book as the finale. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the characters. I loved the plot. I’ll probably think about this series for a long time but I was seriously skimming for the last 2, maybe even 300 pages of this book. It was a lot. Too much battle description for me. But it holds a place in my heart ❤️. I now have an unhealthy obsession with Manon and Abraxos. T-shirts are involved. Fan art phone backgrounds. I might be the only TOG fan who could give a fuck less about Aelin because Manon lives rent free in my head. IDC what anyone says, Manon is MC energy. Idk why Chaol had his own damn book when Manon is much more interesting. How about a spinoff

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas (Throne of Glaas #6)

Image
Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 5 of 5 stars This site has moved, please visit me here Chaol gets some much needed character development and Yrene saves the plot. Who would've thought that Chaol would one day become somewhat less insufferable? Not me. View all my reviews

Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas (Throne of Glass, #5)

Image
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 5 of 5 stars I've moved, please visit the new website here   Finally, a fuck ton of action. Some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Not a fan of the cliff hanger since I know the next book is ALL Chaol but OK. I still liked this book, my favorite so far in the series. View all my reviews

Her Soul For Revenge (Souls Trilogy #2) by Harley Laroux

Image
Her Soul for Revenge by Harley Laroux My rating: 4 of 5 stars I've moved, please visit the new website here 4.5. Book #2 was excellent, the storyline was fantastic but I felt like I didn't care for the spice scenes in this book. I ended up just kind of skimming over them. Still a great story/follow-up to the first book, though. View all my reviews

Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross (Letters of Enchantment, #2)

Image
Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross My rating: 4 of 5 stars I've moved, please visit the new website here Very stressy/drepressy. Lots of war. A little more fantasy than the first book but this still felt more like a romance/drama than a fantasy. View all my reviews

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross (Letters of Enchantment, #1)

Image
Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross My rating: 4 of 5 stars This site has moved, please visit me here   I liked it, I just feel like it's hardly a fantasy. Super heavy on the romance, extra light on the fantasy. Yes, I read this on the 4th of July. There were mosquitos quite literally swarming the outdoors. Safer to stay in and read. Nightbane by Alex Aster (Lightlark #2)

Image
Nightbane by Alex Aster My rating: 5 of 5 stars This site has moved, please visit me here I’m so annoyed that I have to wait until November for the next book, what an absurd cliffhanger. This book is an absolute mind fuck. I am obsessed with the plot, I'm obsessed with the characters, I'm obsessed with the love triangle. This is PEAK romantasy imo. View all my reviews

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix My rating: 5 of 5 stars This site has moved, check out the new site here I picked this book up in the Horror section of B&N but I don't know if I'd really classify it as Horror. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 5 of 5 stars This site has moved, check out the new site here What can I say, this book is awesome but can I get an amen on "Wow, why did it take the storyline so long to get here?" If you'd like to live in a fairy tale super duper HEA land, just stop reading the series here. All is pretty much as it should be. If you need MORE MANON like me (you fucking sadist) venture on.
